Include loads of fruits and vegetables
Fruits and vegetables are extremely important for a balanced diet. In your daily routine, you must have 5 portions of fruits and vegetables. Each portion can be divided into the following:
- Plain fruit juice- one glass
- Regular sized fruit like an apple or an orange – one
- Cut vegetables- two tablespoons

- Fruits like plums or grapes- Two small sized

The patients can have banana but it should not be consumed in excess because the potassium can affect the functioning of the kidneys. Make sure you consult the doctor and then make changes in your diet.
Kidney cancer patients can also include fruits like bananas though not in excess amounts, as potassium in bananas may compromise the functioning of the kidneys, especially after a nephrectomy. It is always better to consult a dietician to know a personalized diet plan for you.
Fiber helps the digestive system to work properly and absorb essential nutrients. It also reduces constipation which is the most common side effect in the cancer patients during the treatment. Fiber is of 2 types: soluble and insoluble. These are found in brown rice, lentils, peas, barley, strawberries, and pulses.
Starchy food like rice, cereals, and potatoes are essential because they are the main source of energy. Some of the options are whole-wheat bread and barley as they are rich in iron and Vitamin B.
Unsaturated fat is found in seed oils, vegetables, nuts, avocado, and oily fish like mackerel, and salmon. It also has essential fatty acids that the body cannot produce on its own.
